5:20 pm - a wolf of the Steppes....
well, it was quite the weekend (as well as last week for that matter).  i have a bit of time left at work, and we are STILL out of SAPE so we can't do anything, it sucks.  anyway,

hmmm last week...  monday went to my last fort reno of the summer, with coleman, to see georgie james.  after we watched Thank you for smoking.  tuesday...  hmm oh ian & i went to capitol lounge to meet brian & others, for tasty 10 cent wings and capitol amber beer.  after... what the hell did we do? i dont know.  something.  On Wed, jenna's brother Michael had driven into town (with the now-jenna's car, victoria :)   from colorado.  what did we do? make dinner and watch planet earth? oh yeah, and the dc united superliga game vs. la galaxy... which was cringingly played, and we lost.  thursday...  hmmm...  goddamn.  not sure.  oh YES.  met Bock for his last night at brickskeller...  tim and 2 more joined us later...  Abby was our waitress (hell yeah!  but she's gone now.. going to Cairo to teach english! awesome) .  my god we drank (a lot) of delicious delcicious beer.  it was a great night.  i rode my bike to brian's and slept there.  i was hung overrrr on fri morning! ah!!  but i made it to work, to do nothing for 8 hours.  when i left, i metroed to the Hirshhorn to meet jenna & mike.  we left via car, stopped at trader joe's, then made a great thai coconut curry dinner.  then off to 10&S  for the LAST party.  they are all moving out at the end of august, and coleman and matt are leaving dc.  **sigh**  a lot went down in that house, and its sad to see the era end.  but its all good, its all change...  anyway it was a lot of fun.  kicked 2 kegs.  got a little crazy.  on saturday morning brian and i arose and, toting harry and ethan, met jenna and mike at the "the world famous" Florida Ave Grill (finally).  mmmm amazing breakfast!  those hash browns were seriously amazing... and so was the sweet tea.  wow.  it all was though.

then we sort of parted ways, jenna and mike eventually headed to baltimore, and i forayed into far out in arlington (east falls church metro, then #2 bus) to go to this woman's house to get a baby kombucha scoby.  ahhh im so excited!! at last!! today i bought the necessary containers, and tonight im going to attempt my first batch  :)

well it took forever, that journey, and i was exhausted when i got back home.  no one else was aorund, and i was feeling lazy, so i basically did nothing and went to bed early.  since.. never.  it was fantastic.  i woke up refreshed at 9am.  went to Best DC, bought some foodstuffs, and prepared a lunch for our sailing excursion.  yeah, thats right- sailing.  jenna, myself, brian, ethan, and her friend sarah, and adam (our sailboat licensee!) went out to Bell View Marina, off the gw parkway, out south of Alexadria.  although little wind, and little sun at first, it was a lot of fun.  yay!  after we stopped at the fish market in SW and grilled a seafood dinner.  oh so tasty.  so it was quite the weekend.  relaxing and adventure-filled and substance-filled.  what more can a girl want?  hehe.

tonight sharri is comin over, we are making sweet potato gnocchi and mussels.  and tomorrow is Wolf Parade at black cat... been sold out for a long time but may and i bought our tickets quick!!  so thats the last week, sort of, in a nutshell.  i'm reading 'Steppenwolf' by Hermann Hesse now, and i think i'm going to read some before i leave.  i'm obssessed with him.

5:20 pm - weekend update, mostly

fifty minutes until i leave work.  i'm sipping on irish breakfast tea.  i loaded it with milk and sugar, and being such a strong tea, it tastes divine.  little drops of rare jewels on my tongue.  and i'm listening to benjy ferree, even though i'm going to see him at fort reno in two hours.  i've held off listening to him but i can't hold out any longer.  ok, ok- just two songs.  "the desert" and "leaving the woods".  eek!  im sooo excited.  i'm constantly listening to his album 'Leaving the Nest'.  i cant get enough.  i even found it on vinyl and bought it (props to Som Records!!).  and tonight...  well, itll be a treat.  may of us are also excited (sharri!!  who introduced me to begin with.  she'll be there too thank god).  and he's also playing 9:30 Club at end of october. sweeeet.

well this weekend was quite fun.  friday after work i biked up to the house on Perry Place (home of julian & others) for a house show with 4 bands i think- vivian girls, punkin pie, hairizona (yes, duo of julian and matt saidel, witnessed at last.  and i mean WITNESSED), and VCR.  i think thats it.  was a lot of fun.  a lot of people i knew were there.  lots of beer (and some whisky of course.  shots to may!!)  later a crew of us went over to emily's house blocks away, but we didn't like that party so much.  i drank a mysterious "home-brewed beer"  and we chilled in emily's room (her included).  eventually we left, and everyone went down to the black cat to daaance but i went over to Marx Cafe in mt. pleasant to meet sharri and her boy jared and kherry.  i was pretty messy at that point and things only got messier... but it was a lot of fun.  at some point i left and biked to brian's, and then i dont remember any more, although apparently he made us a delicious quesadilla...  we made one again in the morning so i could remember the taste ;)

then brian left to go to nyc for Rock the Bells, and i biked home.  went to Graffiti in adams morgan with jenna and bought a record player... hellll yeah!  finally can listen to records again, ive been dying inside.  then i biked down to the mall.  first went to the Sackler Gallery to check out a spice workshop, and i also saw really cool music being performed from 16 & 17th century Portugal.  crazy instruments.  after i went to the Hirshhorn and saw the Wolfgang Tillmans exhibit, which i LOVED.  i need to go back- there were so many photographs I couldn't absorb them all.  I love his ideas, his style....  i revere him....

then i met sharri and jared at the Botanic Garden, and we walked around briefly (they were about to close).  i did see the Capsicum exhibit which was one of my goals.  ahhh i love peppers!  when it closed they went to check out Natural History and i biked home.  exhuasted.  quite hot.humid out too.  I made dinner, showered, watched family guy, just chilllled alone.  nice.   eventually i got my act together and went over to 10&S to hang out with matt and others, before we went to Black Cat to see Pelican and Earth.  emily and ralph also came with us.  the show was fantastic- goddamn pelican is spectacular live- but we were all soo tired and went home right after.

sunday we'd planned to tailgate hardcore at RFK for the United v. Club America game (for Superliga) but it freakin started pouring so we had to scrap that.  we grilled at our house instead and drank and made food.  at 8p we watched the game which was still played, the rain letting up at that point.  we won 1-0 which was great.  although yesterday we lost to Houston (jenna and i were pissed off in Solly's.  but then we got Ben's Chili Bowl.  *sigh*).  but we are still in the semifinals, yay.

ive ranted long enough.  got to do a few more things before i leave.  fort renooooo!!  wine bread & cheeeeese!  and olvessss!

4:23 pm - deathly hallows

the time has come.

yes, the final, highly (might i say giddily) anticipated final chapter of harry potter.  i have the book before me, untouched.  I relish this moment, so ripe; a most succulent of moments.  Since it was released saturday at the first stroke, many have already gorged themselves.  I know much awaits me, yet I am in almost tears to know this is the last (and the PINNACLE of it all) time i will have these bound pages so virgin......   *sigh*  it's been a fucking fantastic ride and i know the best parts are yet to come.  ladies and gentlemen, it's time for sweet indulgence....

3:51 pm - soft, silver tain...
i guess this is one of those rare lj entries.  im so busy all the time, i always forget about this.  but now ive got 1 1/2 hours until i can go home, and i literally have nothing further to do.  you see, the air conditioning has broken in the lab and its like a freakin oven.  not only does this make procedures highly uncomfortable (the actual desk areas and other small prep rooms are not in the main lab.  a long glass panel separates it), but i couldnt run my trays today because the machines were overheating.  so i have no data to analyze, which is what i'd normally do at this time.

its raining outside.  one of those fierce yet rapid (and uncuring of humidity) storms that we have been prone to a lot this summer, more than usual.  always seems to be around rush hour too.
after work today i'm going to see harry potter!!  so excited!!  at Uptown too, one of my favorites.  its been quite some time since i'v been there.  and tuesday i saw Ratatouille with brian (movie date!)  which was very enjoyable.  after work we had met up with some other of the boys at Capitol Lounge (literally below brian's job) to get 10 cent wings and delicious cheap beer (my first time there.  the Capitol Amber is amazing).  then ethan, zach, i went to brian's place where we sat on the roof and smoked a few joints (beautifully rolled i might add).  then we had to go to the movie, but it was that much more enjoyable.  i love the view from his roof, as well as the fascinating architecture/building conditions/abandonment/gentrification of the area.  i could wander around for a looong time (perhaps camera in hand?  this is happening soon).
im just throwing things out there, but anyway, monday i had sort of a dinner party.  brian, maryanna, coleman, and mike (jenna's coworker) joined us three roommates.  i made (with much help!): stuffed jalapenos, garlic plantains, fried rice, and beer-cooked (american dream IPA at that) bratwurst & onions.  and we had a loaf of firehook french bread, as well as homemade bread mike brought.  all so delicious!  of course with wine & beer to wash it all down/ pave the way.  afterwards a bunch of us ended up going to brian's and other people met us there, and we chilled, smoked on the roof (this was the cherry-popper), etc.  really fun night, not so fun morning.
backtracking even further, this weekend on fri night, jenna sharri & i drove back to west vriginia for one night with becca at ACE.  this was because the week before that jenna, brian, ethan & i went to WV and had a lovely time in the mountains/lakes but then the car broke down on the start of the drive home (sharri's car this is, who wasnt even with us).  turned out to be the clutch, which needed replacing.  getting home that sunday is a saga on its own, but anyway.  so we went back, becca was a terrible host, and then we left early sat morning.  but i DID get those sweet potatoe pancakes in fayetteville!!  sweet jesus!!!  so get home, have to leave immediately to go with brian to see the Decemberists with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.  luckily we had the rental car so we could use it to drive to the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD.  it was a mess getting there, but we finally did and it was a brilliant, brillian, magical night.  :)

i could recount even more stories that happened the past few months, but im not.  there have been a few Fort Reno shows, many other shows (including as much Le Loup as possible), lots of debauchery, abrs, parks, biking, Rock Bottom & other happy hours, etc....  you know, a usual summer, packed to the seams with greatness.  hehe.

i might practice how to type properly now.  i use 4-5 fingers total.  its pretty bad, but ive gotten so fast!  ta-ta

11:25 pm - "darn good chai"
it's 11:30pm, wed night.  im hanging out at Tryst (in adams morgan) with Jenna.  unofrtunately i have a shitty headache, so i had to stop reading and writing, and as it is I can barely type.  but anyway.  this place is sweet.  we had delicious chais and a jazz band is playing and the entire front is open to the street and the place is packed.  and free internet.  ah, i heart dc.

this past weekend i was in florida for Dani's wedding.  it was lovely, and i had fun the sunshine state (although im glad to be back).  but i love the ocean down there, and i could stay for the sand and salt alone.  we were in ft. lauderdale.  this screen is too bright, we're leaving soon.  goodnight!

1:59 pm - feeling reflective. (but not writing about it)
its amazing how busy, how involved ive been.  its awesome.  but no time to dwell on that, lets go straight to the real stuff...

today was GW graduation.  cant believe its been a year. brian graduated today. he looked so handsome in his robes and cords of distinction : )  rawr!  im very happy for him and also very proud.  he's accomplished a lot, and now the new era begins....  so this weekend i've been wining and dining with his family.  we went to Lauriol Plaza on friday (not to mention The Reef and Bourbon afterwards... hehe), and yesterday to Mark & Orlando's in dupont.  Great food.  great drink, great company.  all around awesome :)  that was his mom's side of family (mom & stepdad).  tonight is dad & stepmom (and sister of course).  however my dad is coming down to visit today.  so we are all going to dinner.  parents meeting!  hehe.  brian's freaking out a little but i think itll be fun.

also Valerie is graduating this weekend, so tomorrow we are all going out to dinner to celebrate in Maryland (dad, zia, etc).  another free meal!  haha this is fantastic.  and its all fun celebrations!  ohh and dad is bringing down my full bed.  yess!

yesterday all of daniel (balke)'s family came over and we made them lunch.  then we played Cranium, haha.  it was a lot of fun.  then randomly Nina calls me- "hey, im in dc for the day."  what!??  so we hung out for a few hours, and that was cool. then i went to dinner with the family, and then I met May at the Black Cat to see These united States and Let's French (we missed Death By Sexy).  First time seeing Let;s French0 they were really fun.  turns out this kid i sort of know, Max, is the guitarist in the band.  crazy!  ive heard so much about them.  it was a cool show.  but then we went home after cause we were exhausted.  got up early to go to Commencement.  and now im home, waiting for Dad, (and Jenna- im hungry dammit! where is she??).  got to clean a little bit more.  its so nice to have this alone time though, to relax a little, listen to music... specifically Jolie Holland's Catalpa.  jesus its hitting the spot.

3:32 pm - howl at the moon bitches
from Dcist.com:

>> As if good deeds and horsies and faux-Mexican pride and fashionistas and free comics and outer freakin' space weren't enough to keep you busy, The Black Cat's pulled together one heck of a local lineup on the mainstage. Le Loup is giving Georgie James a run for their money in the picking-up-buzz-at-a-ridiculous-rate arena. Give their extremely well-done recordings a listen and you'll begin to see why. The seven piece that we lovingly think of as D.C.'s answer to Arcade Fire opens up for two old friends of DCist's, Jukebox the Ghost and Exit Clov. $10, 9 p.m.

fuck yes le loup!!!  Cinco de Mayo is going to be awesome...  soccer in the morning on the mall/ Lawn Sports & Barbecue club event (finally) 3-6/ pregaming at my place/ black cat show by 9.  all 3 bands are sweet/ sammi & alex birthday party at 10&S after.   bring on the tequila.  and corona.  and lime!!

12:59 am - a word on uncovering the destroyer
holy sweet mother of a two-faced lamb dressed in pajamas....  tonight i saw OF MONTREAL at the Trocadero in Philly.  The venue is a sweet-as-all-hell old theatre, and the band...  they rocked my face off.  I cant even describe the show in justice.  If you've been to an Of Montreal show...  then you know.  We're in this together.  AND, I'm in love with Kevin Barnes.  I mean, how can you not be?  He's fucking fabulous, brilliant, amazing!  (dont worry brian, youre still my favorite!)  He's got...  soul power.  hehe.

I feel an onslaught of Hissing Fauna listening coming on....  obsessive listening.... My ears are being treated as we speak  :)  I haven't listened to it enough but it's definitely starting to take a hold on me.  Of course I absolutely adore The Sunlandic Twins, so we'll see how this fares...

Goodbye!

ps- does anyone understand the album title?  I havent actually read the lyrics yet however.  maybe thatll shed some light.  but maybe not.
pps- they played 'The past is a grotesque animal'- and i tell you- the full force of that song didnt hit me until i saw them play it.  but it hard.  hard and good, oh yeah---

8:40 pm
I had another oral surgery on Tuesday.  They cut me open, scraped out all the infected granulations, packed synthetic bone into the hole where my wisdom tooth had been a month ago, and sewed me up.  Sucks.  Its Friday night now.  Today was the first time I got dressed or left the house.  I've been sleeping, watching tv, sleeping, tv, i cant really do much else.  take vicodin and antibiotics (for the 3rd fucking time).  im so drained and pained.  its crazy- my mouth is still very sensitive and raw, and painful when the vicodin wears off.  grrrr.  the parents keep making delicious food.  not to metnion a packed fridge.

well, im slowly recovering.  im going to pop a pill and watch The Departed tonight.  how thrilling.  Also, the Cat CLinic (finally) informed my via letter that they picked someone else for the job.  Thanks alot.  So I am still still back to square one with the job hunt, and its been nearly 5 fucking months.  thats almost half a year.  how the hell....?  im wasting away.  luckily, i am moving to DC April 1 with Jenna- regardless of my job situation.  a small bright light.

im just trying not to succumb to depression but its really really really really hard.  i feel listless and pissed off all the time.  i want to ravenously smoke cigarettes, but due to my present condition, i cannot at the moment.  nor can i drink, and drown my sorrows in alcohol.  thats enough complaining for now.  i just feel shitty.  pretty much all the time

3:24 pm - "a breath of buffalo in the wintertime-"
this is my last day at work.  fernando is MIA and he has my last project so i'm basically sitting around the lab doing nothing (meaning internet, crossword, etc).  gustavo is in south america since saturday.  i finished my other work this morning.

anyway, im sad to leave.  the last 3 weeks have been great, both at work here and in dc in general.  i may may may may have a job with the cat clinic- oh i want it!  im perfect!  ive already had 2 interviews, now ill find out by the end of this week.  i want to find an apartment with jenna and have a LIFE.  i have felt so in between, so stuck, for so many months.  it sucks and its depressing and ive been trying not to dwell on it.  this job taking me is like a turnaround in my mind.  *sigh...*

so wed i drive home.  ive got a few things i need do when i get home so thats good (including dentist on fri- my right mouth is still fucked up... getting worse now).  this weekend was a lot of fun- on friday brian and i polished off a bottle of Jim Beam (yes i was very very drunk- suddenly it was gone!).  we drank at e st.  with harry, natalie, zack rider, then later bryce and mary.  it was a lot of fun.  saturday brian and i went to costco in VA, dropped off the food, then went back to aaron's house.  drank beer and wine, made dinner (delicious indian curry), then jenna came after the gw basketball game (jesus did xavier shut us down in the second half...).  we ended up driving to jenna's house- i was elected to drive (it was my car).  jenna, brian, aaron and i.  made it to jenna's (i was pissed i couldnt drink the delicious flask we'd made up for the car..  its ok though).  then we rolled a j and smoked it as we walked up to the H st. area (NE).  went to the rock & roll hotel- so crowded and overwhelming, then to the Palace of Wonders- saw the end of a freak show or something and then hung out a little, then we went next door to the red & the black- got a booth, a drink, and drunkenly sang along to good jukebox selections.  the bartenders were dancing and singing on the bar...  haha it was a fun place.  then we walked back to jenna's, smoked hukkah and another j, chilled.  aaron was sober enough to drive so luckily we got a ride back to foggy bottom.  late night!  a lot of fun though.  sunday... bed all day, then brian took me to Bistro du Coin in dupont- delicious delicious french food.  : )  meow!  oh also, thurs night i got drunk- started off with bock in froggy, drinkin $1.50 high lifes with may as our waitress.  then we moved downstairs, met jenna and her friend daniel, bock's roommate came, brian, and mike too, and others....  it was good times....  definitely some antics going on...  including a highly professional study on certain talents/traits.  hehe.

i also have a TON of new music- its freakin ridiculous how much.  this includes, apples in stereo, the arcade fire, clap your hands say yeah, of montreal, the good the bad and the queen, the minders, peter bjorn and john, explosions in the sky.....  and more, as well as a bunch of older albums.  im feeling dizzy, in an exalted way.

2:47 pm - gazing into the crystal ball
i just got off the phone- i have step 1 of a 3-part interview tomorrow.  im so hyper and antsy right now.  i mean, there are a lot of cool things about this position and also some not so cool things.  i guess ill be the judge of which side wins as i progress and learn more.  im just giddy at the prospect and also a little bit scared and nervous.  ahhh!  i could write a lot more, but.. nah.  itll just be boring. i think ill make some coffee instead.

mmm i had java green for lunch.  so delicious.  a few weeks ago- that show was really really good.  murder by death was so intense (now their name makes sense) and also thursday was- i mean, they really kick ass.  and they played a considerable amount off Full collapse.  : )  later that night brian, michelle and i were bar hopping U St, and we ran into the frontman and the cellist of murder by death outside a bar.  we talked to them briefly.  so cool!  then later in the Black Cat, we found ourselves talking to the original bassist for Q and not U (only on No Kill...)- ironic how that conversation started... but he was awesome and we talked for a while about dc stuff.

the next night i was again at 9:30 club, i saw The Dears (they were sweet) and the Annuals opened but i wasnt that impressed (ive heard a lot of buzz though).  anyway, good weekend.

this past weekend sucked because my right jaw/mouth inflamed with infection and i was incapacitated.  grrr.  but im better now (still on antibiotics though).   i better do some work now.  coffee first.

ps- i really want this job that i applied for yesterday for a vet technician at an animal clinic (called Capitol Cat Clinic!) in arlington.  we'll see....

1:26 pm - this entry invoked by the state of the union
"When The President Talks To God"
(Bright Eyes)

When the president talks to God
Are the conversations brief or long?
Does he ask to rape our women’s' rights
And send poor farm kids off to die?
Does God suggest an oil hike
When the president talks to God?

When the president talks to God
Are the consonants all hard or soft?
Is he resolute all down the line?
Is every issue black or white?
Does what God say ever change his mind
When the president talks to God?

When the president talks to God
Does he fake that drawl or merely nod?
Agree which convicts should be killed?
Where prisons should be built and filled?
Which voter fraud must be concealed
When the president talks to God?

When the president talks to God
I wonder which one plays the better cop
We should find some jobs. the ghetto's broke
No, they're lazy, George, I say we don't
Just give 'em more liquor stores and dirty coke
That's what God recommends

When the president talks to God
Do they drink near beer and go play golf
While they pick which countries to invade
Which Muslim souls still can be saved?
I guess god just calls a spade a spade
When the president talks to God

When the president talks to God
Does he ever think that maybe he's not?
That that voice is just inside his head
When he kneels next to the presidential bed
Does he ever smell his own bullshit
When the president talks to God?

I doubt it

I doubt it

12:53 pm - a city by the light divided?
due to my impacted wisdom teeth extraction, i had to push back dc a week.  finally im starting to feel normal, after a week and a half.  eek atleast its over.  i am just starting to eat again. and i have a few percocets left over  : )
anyway, so tomorrow i drive to dc... for an undetermined amount of time.  im not even sure how long im working at gustavo's lab- 2, 3 weeks?  please please let me have a job after that!  i cant come back here.  i so badly want a job and my own place, even just my own room in a group house.  my own space.  these next weeks are going to be strange because i dotn have a real place to live, and although im staying with brian (which is awesome) theres no kitchen and i have to be signed in if i walk through the door.  laaaame.  oh well.  and ill have no bike!  pish posh

to kick it off we're going to a show tomorrow.  Thursday, Murder By Death, Fear Before the March of Flames, and Heavy Heavy Low Low.  I dont know the latter two, but ive read that theyre experimental and mathcore-ish.  cool technical shit.  we'll see.  as for murder by death- ive never seen them and im very excited.  and thursday- well, its been quite a while, and an album or two (the last of which ive barely listened to).  but ever since i clicked "purchase tickets" ive gotten really excited.  they really are fucking crazy good live, and they are my trademark band, sort of.  haha.  its at 9:30 club.  yay!  i also havent been to a show in a while, and a hardcore show.....  wow far too long.

so, dc, here i come.  goodbye new jersey.  winter break was fun though, chillin with amelia and sharri mostly.  my girls!  :)  today ive got a ton of errands and packing to do.  shower time now.  goodbye!

current mood: giddy
current music: thursday- sugar in the sacrament
